I have a question about pacts.  In my current game, my AI ally keeps offering me two pacts (one for minerals and one for phase jumps, IIRC), but every time I go into that screen and accept the offered hand, the AI then rejects the pact.  Why would it offer it in the first place?  Not only that, as soon as it rejects my acceptance, it then offers the pact again.  WTH?!?

What am I missing here?

On an unrelated note, in one battle I suddenly had all my fighters freeze in place.  Why?  I don't think I ever saw that before.  A computer glitch or a weapon I never noticed before?  They started to move again 20-30 seconds later on their own.  Weird.

Yes...it was a confusing session of Sins tonight.

That's a really good question.  Why offer it and then reject the acceptance of the offer?  It sounds like one of those annoying bugs.

The answer to your second question is that you were probably attacking a Vasari planet where the enemy had hanger bays in the gravity well.  If you look at the Vasari "Fortification" tech tree you will see a Level 4 ability called "Phasic Trap".  It's something that can be researched and put on a hanger.

This ability combined with multiple strategically placed hangers makes Vasari one of the best races for being able to "hole up" and defend a key planet (chokepoint or home planet) because it could potentially completely counter an enemy's bomber spam, preventing him from killing your defending starbase.  If there are enough hangers the enemy bomber swarm could be completely frozen with one phasic trap ability activating after the other.

Knowing that, a TEC human player in online multiplayer would just build lots of Orgovs to knock it down.  Advent could try to tank the starbase with a very large and properly constructed battle ball or perhaps attack the hangers from long range with starfish.  Vasari might try building its own starbase in that gravity well, far away from the repair bays, forcing the enemy starbase to move out from behind the safety of the hangers.  Non-TEC AI probably doesn't have any programming for how to deal with something that.  TEC AI will actually build Orgovs.

as far as the accepting and rejecting pacts part, that means that the AI has made significant steps to be your buddy, but you havent done the same.  getting your relationship with that AI up to an even 10 should solve the problem. (its relationship with you is already over ten)

Okay, I suspected something like that.  Thanks for the clarification!

So even though the AI is offering the pact, I still need to improve my diplo performance before I can accept it?

Thanks guys!

Maybe that's it--you need to have a good relationship with the AI, too.  I guess I'd never noticed it since the way it plays out online, your allies can and will offer you pacts even if you haven't produce any envoy ships or worked on the relationship from your side at all.

each pact has a set amount of relationship and yours has no bearing on theirs and vis versa. if that number should drop some how, you fail a mission, you turn on them, an envoy is destroyed, when the number drops the pact is broken once it's below the required number, if he offered the pacts and then the amount dropped BEFORE you accepted, the offer still stands till you accept it, with the AI they just offer it once that number hits and forget it till you accept to cancel, it's the same with cease fires and visions. so as long as the relationship is up you can accept and offer pacts,(Advent/Tec is a good pact combo), and that's all I got on the subject. If you allow diplomatic victory you win too fast to even play is the only other thing I have on the subject lol.

Hi sinners,

talking rebellion beta here:

I have done some epic games with a buddy including pacts which already have been successfully offered and accepted.

Now we started a new game, i went for early envoys, got relations boosted to 20.00 while rushing research all up to supply pact.

In the "Manage Pacts" screen i could offer that first one (+Tax income i think it was)  as soon as it was researched  and required relationship stats were met (about 11.50 )  ~it was accepted.

Problems:

1. ) Buddy still is at 10.00 with 3 envoys on 3 colonized worlds of mine, not gaining any growth to the relationship stats.

2. ) I can not offer any pacts beyond the first one,   even if i hit the 20.00 relations limit and tech is researched.

Questions:

- How exaclty does the System work?

- I doubt it, but does the buddy need to improve relations as well to accept pact from me?

- How come he would not have any increase to the rel. stat?

- Did i miss anything patch related on that matter? (even searched through patch history)

- Is there any other factor besides relationship stat to play a role in that?

I apologize if this topic has been covered else where.

But i have been reading forums for 1 week since i started playing, checked the wiki for almost any aspect of the game and even took a peek into those fance damage and counter system charts, but either the diplomacy in this game is kind of simple or i did miss some crucial part i do not even know of.

best regards

SCAV

Well FYI, a two year old thread is not the best place to ask a question.

But yes is that you both need to have the required relationship status (a change in the latest patch of Diplomacy that's still in Rebellion). You sending envoys to him makes him like you more, but he needs to return the favor before you can like him enough.

Thanks for the directions, Goa !

You`re right,
but i did not want to lose face over bad research and redundant postings.

i could verify this in the log for 1.3

https://www.sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_1.3

Pacts now require that both players achieve the minimum required relationship level to form an agreement.
